Congrats to the New England Patriots and thumbs up to good old Tom Brady for yet again leading The Pats to another Super bowl! (Literally thumbs up because if they win it will be his 6th super bowl ring).
The oldest QB in the league is a trailblazer, not only in the NFL record books but also in changing public opinion about ageism and veganism.
Tom Brady is most 42 years old and at an age when most NFL players are retiring, he is showing no signs of slowing down. In typical Patriots style where nothing is left to chance, (the playbook is studied and known by all) the new slogan ‘Everything we got,’ symbolizes not only the thorough preparation instilled by Bill Belichick, but also the holistic approach to training, health and wellness that Tom Brady embodies.
Genes of course must play a part for sure but, to stay healthy and energized season after season in a sport where weekly collisions are compared to car crashes, it is a lesson we can all take from Tom Brady’s play book.
Yes he has a team of the top people, and his own book (TB12) and product line but he still has to commit each and every day to the mantra of Holistic Health.
And he is not alone. There is a growing trend of NFL, NBA and many top professional athletes that are veganizing their lifestyles.
At least 15 members of the Tennessee Titans have switched to plant-based meal plans. NBA stars Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Wilson Chandler, Al Jefferson, Garrett Temple, Enes Kanter JaVale McGee and Jahlil Okafor are all eating plant based vegan and vegetarian. Serena Willams (Tennis) and Hannah Teter (Snow Boarder), Kendrick Harris (Weight lifter) and Meagan Duhamel (Ice skater), Anthony Joshua (heavy weight boxer) are all top of their game and have acknowledged how much more energy and better they perform and feel by switching to a plant based diet.
The proof as they say, is in the pudding. And this is a pudding we can all share. If you are feeling inspired by the ‘Tom Brady effect’, then start making small changes to your food choices. It’s really easy just take a look at my healthy twists on your classic super bowl foods and start there.
